A Bharatanatyam Recital at “La Fila Film Festival”
Celebrating Three Decades of Cinematic Excellence, with India as this year’s Guest Country.
I had the privilege of presenting a small Bharatanatyam recital in collaboration with Casa de la India, at the Centro Municipal José Luis Mosquera (Valladolid) on April 11, 2026. This performance for “La Fila Film Festival” served as a profound exploration of how the rhythmic complexities of Indian dance can harmonize with poetic narrative, showcasing the depth and versatility of this classical art form to an international audience.”
The recital began with an evocative piece set to a poem in Spanish, which I interpreted through the traditional language of Bharatanatyam. This choreography delved into the nature within the human imagination, reimagining the forest as a sacred, holy space—a living, breathing temple where divinity is found in every movement. By blending the narrative power of the Spanish language with the expressive mudras and abhinaya of Bharatanatyam, the piece invited the audience to experience the forest not just as a physical environment, but as a spiritual sanctuary.
To complement this lyrical opening, the performance transitioned into a high-energy Jathiswaram set to Raga Saraswathi. This abstract composition highlighted the technical brilliance of the dance, utilizing intricate footwork and precise geometry to channel the specific power and strength inherent in the raga’s structure. These performances, held in partnership with the Ayuntamiento de Valladolid, the Embassy of India, and collaborating with “Seminci Film Festival” and University of Valladolid, among others.
